Yawn

Filed under: Uncategorized — ninsianna @ 10:39 am

I’m so ready for the weekend. I’m kind of looking forward to a relatively lazy weekend. I don’t know what it’s going to take to get me to be more awake in the mornings. I’m at work all day, longing to go home and relax. But then when I get home, there’s usually something to do. I used to watch a lot of tv. I don’t watch much tv anymore. Of course I also used to spend a lot more time watching my waistline expand. Now I’m noticing some weight loss finally.
I’ve been seeing the numbers fall, as I loose lbs, but only in the last month have I actually noticed a difference in the way my clothes fit me. I think I used to wearmore baggy clothes, and now I want to wear tighter clothes, but my baggy clothes are even baggier now!
My ring size has dropped from a 7 to a ~6. My one comfy jeans were getting snug, and now they’re back to comfy status, and my always a little snug, getting snugger jeans, are less snug. I no longer have to the the little wiggle-jean dance to get into them.
snug is a funny word.
The slacks I’m wearing to work today are way to big now. I bought them a little big, because at the time i had accepted my fate of having an ever expanding ass/waistline. I should have looked in the mirror a little more closely this morning. When I was walking up to the office I noticed the crotch of these pants are halfway to my knees, and I have to keep pulling them up.
I’m looking seriously tacky today. But I wanted to dress fairly comfortable since I have to drive back down to the dallas convention center this afternoon to help tear down the company booth. Plus it’s Friday, and while we don’t have an ‘official’ casual friday, people dress a little less fancy. My boss, the VP always dresses very nice, today she’s wearing a light knit sweater w/ black slacks and said she’s dressed casual fro friday. God what I would give for real casual fridays that involve denim.

Ok, I’ve rambled on plenty for this morning. Go visit neko’s sight for a rather amusing story about disembodied old man heads

Oh, the horror!

Last night was a very dangerous game of racquetball. As you’ve probably heard me mention before (or read about), phlome has a bad habit of getting hit with racquetballs. Well last night he had the night off from the constant bombardment. Instead the balls decided to attack Zero. He got pegged pretty nicely at least 3 times, with a few additinal gentle bounces off the shoulder/backside for good measure. But with all that violence, I’m the one who bled. Yup, that’s right. I got hurt too. First I was trying to hit a ball that was coming frighteningly close to my face, and managed to whack myself in the temple with my racket. Not unlike Phlome did just a few weeks ago. But the bloody mess was when I ran into Zero, while chasing after a ball, and managed to shove my foot under his, thereby bending my big toenail backwards. Ok, so maybe bloody mess is a bit of an exageration. Nonetheless, I still had to interrupt the game to inspect the damage, when the pain just wouldn’t go away. And sure ’nuff there was a splotch of blood on my sock, and the tip of my toenail showed the taletell signs of having been bent backwards, with a little pocket of blood at the corner.
So this morning my temple hurts when I squint (or accidently touch it) and my toe hurts when I walk.
Oh, and for bunny, fruits basket is getting increasingly bizarre in the last disc. Imagine this sung in a sing-songy scratchy voice by a little white triangle in a sailor suit: “Sailor suit, sailir suuuuit, riceball alien in a sailor suuuit.” Yeah, it’s a little f’d up.
And I forgot to mention a great quote from the Butterfly Effect: “Eyeliner and a little charisma go a long way”
Ok, it’s 8:30 and most people are here at work now, so I’ll get to it…

Happy Hump Day

Filed under: Uncategorized — ninsianna @ 8:57 am

Almost halfway through the week.
Last night phlome and I saw the Butterfly Effect at the local dollar theatre.
It wasnt’ too bad. Not one of the years best, but not bad. I don’t regret the $2 we spent to see it. And the movie popcorn was delicious. I love movie popcorn with movie popcorn butter and movie popcorn salt. I would say that phlome gets a bit carried away with the salt, but then, given the opportunity I tend to get a bit carried away with the butter. But this place didn’t have the self serve butter option.
Funny thing is, when I heard the reviews about the movie, people either loved it or hated it. My opinion of the movie wasn’t nearly so strong. It was an okay movie, I might watch it again if it were on tv, but I doubt I’d rent it. Though I might recommend someone else renting it, if they’re curious about the movie. And Ashton Kutcher didnt’ do half bad in his portrayal. He actually managed to not look incredibly goofy when he smiled. Unlike Brendon Frasier, who looks goofy when he smiles no matter what role he’s in, though he’s still yummy nonetheless.

So there’s my movie review.

Update on the calves: they’re doing much better today. Still pretty tight this morning, but after walking to the back door to let the dogs out, I could walk fairly normal again. And they don’t get tight nearly as quickly, so I can easily get up from my desk and walk back to the color copier/fax with out having to concentrate on not looking like I just had an unwelcome back door visitor last night.
Hmmm, perhaps that imagery was a bit too vivid, I just had a flash back from the movie Leaving Las Vegas. Which while probably an excellent movie, I will never watch it again. Entirely too disturbing.

Ok enough rambling, back to work….

Oh, the pain….the ag-o-neeeee

Filed under: Uncategorized — ninsianna @ 10:21 am

I failed to mention the pain and suffering I’ve been enduring since yesterday morning. Evidently walking around barefoot in mud for 5 hours gives the calves quite a work-out.
I woke up Monday morning, and my calves did not want my legs to straighten. Walking is just very difficult.
Last night phlome and I played racquetball, and it helped stretch out my calves quite nicely. We ate dinner at OG, and after sitting for half an hour, they got tight again, so I ended up waddling out to the car.
Ditto after watching tv for a while, and trying to get up to walk to bed.
I woke up twice early this morning, and suffered severe pain when I tried to strech out my calves.
Sitting just causes the muscles to sqeeze all tight, and it takes a good 5 mins. of walking around to loosen them up. As is the case with most folks anymore, my job does not lend itself to much walking.
Not much going on at work today - I need to start calling and introducing myself to the folks who’s training I’ll be trying to coordinate.

I got my business cards today at work! I’m very excited about this, and I think I’ll just have to hand them out to everyone I know. Seriously, I don’t have much use for them, but it makes me feel special. :-D
Other than that, today I have put 3 ppt presentations into a new template, which of course requires going though all the slides to make sure the images and text are in the right place.

I’ve also entered course evaluations into a spreadsheet.

My next plan is to practice setting up materials for a convention thing that’s later this week. It’s my responsibility to set up the booth. So I got sent these 2 huge box/tube things (one is at least as tall as I am) and I’m supposed to know how to open them and set them up for Thursday or something.

Other than that I’m surfing the web for a better cell phone plan. And yes, that is vital to my job. 300 mins. a month just one’ cut it, when i’ll be spending atleast 120 a month on monday morning conf. calls alone. On the bright side, I get reimbursed $35/month from the company for my cell phone usage. Have I mentioned this before already?
Anyway this friday I get my first full paycheck. :-) So I’ll pay my wonderfull landlord some rent money that was due 2 weeks ago!

Fine, here’s the update

Foreign Service Written Exam (FSWE) was 6 hours of testing, mostly with multiple choice, 2 essays and 1 multiple choice/free answer which was all biographical/work history stuff. I doubt I scored well enough to move on to the next step, but I now know what to expect, and will try it again next year.
I met some friendly folks there 2 ladies whose name I never got, and a guy named David. One of the girls said I look like someone who would have been on a debate team in highschool or college. I don’t know what that means.

Sat after the exam i sat at home and stared at the tv for awhile, not taking a nap like I should have. Then we all went out to Ft. Worth to a bar to meet friends for drink and pool.
Today (sunday) we went to the Ren. Fest. in Scarborough. It was great weather, just very muddy due to the last two nights of rain. I wore a lovely green dress and black flipflops which lasted all of 10 minutes before I tied them to my bad and walked around barefoot in the mud the rest of the day. Phlome has pics, he’ll probably put them up sometime this month.
Now it’s about my bedtime, so I’m off to catch some zzzzzzs.
Night, folks….

Project

Filed under: Uncategorized — ninsianna @ 10:41 am

I’m working on a project for my mom, which I’m thinking about converting into something for me.
She’s on another diet. This one has me worried. It involved injecting human Chorio-Gonadotropin. But it does involve a change in diet, the hormone is supposed to help slough off the fat more quickly. My main concern is the fact that the FDA has not approved it for use in weight reduction, and the AMA is against it as well. And this stuff has been around for decades, and it was in the 70’s when the FDA decided it was not effective as a weight loss drug.
Anyway, they’ve also given her a diet. And trust me, this diet alone would cause a person to loose weight. She’s limited to 800 calories/day. So if she does loose weight, I still won’t be convinced that the hCG had anything to do with it.
Anyway, I’m putting together a little excel sheet w/ dropdown menus for her to select from for each meal.
I’m thinking I might make something similar but for more complex for myself. One that would allow me to select from a broad list of <200 calorie food options for my breakfast and dinner. Then 500-800 calorie meal option for lunch. I'm not sure if I'll go through with it though, because I've already got a pretty good idea, in my head of what I can eat. Everynow and then I'll venture forth, and check out the calorie count of other foods, but I've checked the calires on most foods I regularly eat.

Anyway, Mom and I are probably going down to SA for mother's day weekend. We're gonna try to stay on or near the RiverWalk. Mom would probably be interested in Seaworld or something. I remember going when I wa slike 12 and i'm not sure that it would really do anything for me anymore. Once you've seen a few dolphins/whales jumping around a few times, it kinda all starts to look the same. Besides I've seen real dolphins in the real ocean swimming along side our boat. And they do all the same tricks (exctp those involving props) but just because they're having fun, not to entertain a crowd/get a treat.

Oh well, I think I'm done now. I'm looking forward to hearing Jess's news....

And in other news Tamales of Death!

Workin’ for the man…

Filed under: Uncategorized — ninsianna @ 8:36 am

And when I say the man, I mean THE MAN. As in the big cheese himself, Uncle SAM. Well maybe anyway.
This Saturday from 8 am - 3pm I’ll me locked away in a test center along with many other Dallas hopefulls taking the Foreign Service Exam.
If I do well then I get called in for an ‘Oral Examination’. Witch roughly translates into an interview. And if they really like me I could get a job working overseas for the US gov.
I’m not really expecting any of this to happen, but it’s worth a try anyway. The only give the test once a year across the entire nation.
So while I sit in my little test center, so will thousands of other people across the nation be sitting in their little test centers.
Because of all this testing planned for Sat, the Friday night poker extravaganza will be sans-ninsi for most of the evening.
I’ll need to be doing some sort of studying, so that I don’t do too horrible on the test, but in all reality I don’t expect to do that well either.

So, bunny, sorry, but this friday will not be a good FruitsBasket/GreenMeany night.
