To sum up:
Friday - laid back dinner at Traildust steakhouse, followed up by some upset stomach and then an early night.
Sat. day photoshoot - you may see photos depending on how they turn out - no promises though
Sat. night - drunken revelrie at Zero’s. Phlome was the life of the party til we had to go home where he worshipped the porcelin god a bit and spit bread at me.
Sun. lazy day, much sleeping and laying around then went out to Club Spooky for halloween where i got a bit tipsey and debated entering the costume contest w/ my little red riding hood costume. Then backed out as I realized that no matter how cute I look, I can’t compete with half naked 19 yr olds.
Pictures I need to post:
Photo of my dad’s family with me and Phlome - demonstrating how lucky I am to have made it 5′3 3/4″.
Photo of our jack o’ lantern, we carved last night
Photos of the “thing” Phlome found in the garage (another hidden surprize from the former residents)
Check out my moblog/photoblog for some updated pics of Barley - need to take some better ones
I’m avoiding the little red light on my phone that’s telling me I have work voicemail.
I’m avoiding half the emails in my email box.
I’m avoiding sending an email I really need to.
I avoided posting for a good chunk of the morning.
I’m not ready to be back at work yet.
Yesterday my boss gave me permission to work from home today. So today I’m “working” and getting stuff ready for the weekend. I’ll actually probably jump in the tub here pretty soon. Then start some laundry and start packing. For lunch we’ve got to run some errands, then I’ve got to be back to deal with work stuff between 1 and 2. Hopefully after that we’ll be able to head out.
Tonight we’re driving to Tulsa, and picking up the Squid. Tomorrow, with an early morning start, we should make it to wichita by noon at the latest. Then it’s quality extended family time most of Saturday, and all day Sunday. Monday we’ll have to get another early start, so that we can make it back to Dallas in time for me to get to class by 6pm.
Whoot.
Forgive me fellow Potter fans, but sometimes I can be a bit slow. I have not heard anyone mention this little tidbit that I’ve only recently realized, which means either few other people have caught on to it, or it’s so painfully obvious that no one felt it was worth mentioning.
I have now read HP and the Sorcerer’s/Philosopher’s Stone at least three times: at least twice, the American version, and at least once the British version. Just recently I decided I would listen to the entire series on audio CD. (Because my work offers free audio book rental, and while most of them are supposed to be educational/career/lifestyle enhancing, they do have a few “popular” audio books - though I suppose there could be an argument for the popular books being lifestyle enhancing…anyway.) So this week I started with HPatS/PS. Since we’re only allowed 3 disks at a time, I got the first three, and with my commute to/from work/school, I finished them Tuesday night. (I’m holding on to them to see if maybe the Squid wants to listen to them on the way up to Wichita this weekend). Anyway, so by the 3rd disc Harry had just been sorted and was settling down for his first night at Hogwarts in the Gryffindor Tower. Not that any of that is really relevant to the point of this.
The point being that the guy who reads the books has a British accent, and I thought he was pronouncing Diagon differently than I did in my on mind, and differently than it’s pronounced in the movies (I think). I say Di-a-gon, with equal emphasis on each syllable. He was pronouncing it like Di-A-gn - with strong emphasis on the -a-, and weak emphasis on the -gon, so much to wear the o almost wasn’t there. As I was thinking this over, I realized he was pronouncing it like you would pronounce diagonally, just without the -ally.
That’s when it hit me -
DIAGON ALLEY = DIAGONALLY.
So anyone else figure this out like a million years ago?
***************************************************
UPDATE - I was lazy before, and since I’m lazy in a different way now (avoiding work) I googled Diagon Alley and diagonally - wiki mentions it briefly here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diagon_Alley
Also bringing up Knockturn Alley - nocturnally.
And here’s just a good HP site in general in case you hadn’t been there yet: HP Lexicon.
Ok - so phlome has guilted me into posting.
Update since my last post (in no particular order)
Completed and submitted term project (Grade = B)
Completed Final Exam for class from hell (Grade = B)
Barley ate my fave mary janes
Phlome bought me new mary janes - I tell you ladies, how many men do you know would go shopping at a mall for you for shoes! Without your insistance, no less - but of his own accord. I win - you all loose, my beau is better than yours
Ummmmm - okay I can’t think of anything else that happened, most of what I’ve done lately is study and work on my project. But now that that’s over, I can hopefully regain something of a social life.
This weekend = Wichita
Next weekend = Halloween
11/5 = Free
11/12 = Family down to visit
11/19 = Free
11/26 = thanksgiving
Somewhere in there I’ll have to do some school work. My final will be the 3rd week in December, then a couple weeks off for the holidays. Then classes start back up in Jan. Then I’ll take march and april cuz WE’RE GETTING MARRIED.
Yeah time just flies.
So tonight I’m trying to convince people to do stuff like go see The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio, or go to the State Fair of Texas.
So far I’m not having luck since Zero is working on stuff for school, bunny is MIA, and Phlome is stubborn. Grant you, he’s had to keep the house from falling a part/exploding/turning into the pit of dispair while I’ve been doing nothing but school work for the past 16+ weeks, so he’s kind of allowed to be a bit bully.
Ok - so Phlome and I are trying to figure out what we’re gonna do for our honeymoon. Right now the top of our list is a curise somewhere in the medeterranean. But we need to keep it reasonable. I have enough AA miles to get us both just about anywhere American flies round trip. But that will empty my account. It cost additional miles to fly on airlines that are part of the oneworld alliance. Otherwise we’d be taking TahitiNui out of LA to Tahiti.
Other than that we’re trying to keep the rest of the trip in the 2-3k range. As in closer to 2k, but will not go a penny over 3k.
I know I should probably be contacting a travel agent of sorts for help like this, but thought I’d send out feelers to the itnernet to see if anyone else has suggestions.
We’re avoiding places I’ve been. And therefore avoiding the Western Carribean cruises. We also would have taken an Alaskan Cruise, but they don’t start til May, and I’m trying to avoid taking more than one session off of school. My next session starts the first week in May. We also don’t want to rush out of the ceremony to get on a plane. We’re looking at leaving sometime after the 3rd of April.
This morning I woke up from dreaming about my wedding. I didn’t want to wake up, because I still needed to fix it. The various things that were going wrong:
As of the rehearsal we had forgotten to order chairs for the ceremony
The officiant never showed up
My aunt wore jeans and a t-shirt (I told her she had to leave, and go put on something nicer, she came back in the same old t-shirt but with slacks - just so you know, this is so not like my aunt)
My cousins were wearning horridly fluffy dresses
my wedding colors had changed to pink and peach
my dress was peach and the same dress my grandmother wore to her 2nd wedding
my bouquet was fake
people forgot who was supposed to escort who down the aisle
random distantly extended members of the family (who I didn’t know) kept escorting other random people down the aisle
my aunt walked her tackily dressed self down the aisle
no one walked my mom or grandmother down the aisle
I finally stormed down the aisle and told everyone to just sit down and lets get on with it
that’s when I was reminded that we still didn’t have an officiant
The whole mess lead to us running out of time, and loosing our space at the reception place.
The only good thing - the weather was nice.
I meant to mention before that I seem to have gotten poison ivy yet again. As best I can come up with, I was helping Phlome to move some shrubbery that he’d dug up. He unfortunaly was wearing the same gloves he wore to pull up the poison ivy a few months back. Those gloves touched the shrubs, which I then toughed, then got on my leg and on my bum.
Tonight I’m supposed to be working on my project. But I’m not. Because I suck and am not at all motivated, and left one page that I have to have to work on my project somewhere at the house. I’m gonna have to search the house for it. The prof did not post the assignment, only handed out hard copies. He seems to really hate hard copies. We even have to turn in our assignments on paper.
I really hate that. Electronic format works so much better.
