Its a white trash V-day

I found this at the Kroger near our house. In case you don’t want to go look at the pic yourself: cellophaned bags of coors light and zima with a cheap white teddy bear and lame balloon.

It’s oh so very classic Texas. *sigh*

Because that last post was super lame

Filed under: Rant — ninsianna @ 4:04 pm

Last Thursday I came home to find our back gate wide open. The dogs were just kinda hanging out back there, and decided to come out when I drove up. So I was much releived. Then I saw the note on our door. From the animal control service. The following options were checked on the note: (paraphrased)
dogs creating a nuissance
dogs without ID tags
dogs without rabbies vaccination tags
dogs running free
provide proof of rabbies vaccination in 48 hours
maybe something else.

But the real concern was at the bottom in the officers hand writing:
dogs killed a rabbit/attacked a child pls call me, officer E, and his phone number.

So I called, and no answer, I left a msg. I left another the next morning. And a 3rd Friday afternoon before we left for town. We went by the animal control office and showed proof of the rabbies vaccinations, the officer was in the field. I called again Tuesday.
Last night the officer finally called us.
Our new neighbors claimed our dogs ate thier pet rabbit and “charged” their child. But guess what, they can’t find the rabbit, and neither dog has any sign of blood or rabbit remnents on it. The officer searched our back yard and found no ravaged rabbit corpse.
And our dogs never touched their child, just ran at it.
But, in our little town “charging” a person is considered an attack. So the neighbors have the option of pressing charges. If they do, we will get a fine. We can’t dispute it. The burdon of proof is on the pet owner. We weren’t there. And to be honest, I don’t doubt that Barley ran after their child. He’s a puppy, he loooooves people. Luna, no. All luna does is bark and walk backwards while doing so. She’s all bark, but she really knows how to pull her bluff over on people. Dogs on the other hand, and rabbits. Oh yeah, she would so eat a rabbit if she caught one. And she won’t back down from another dog.

Here’s my theory of how things played out:
stupid neighbor lets pet rabbit out
rabbit disappears. neighbor sees small hole in fence, the perfect size for a rabbit, and decides it must have gotten in our backyard. He and child go and open our gate to search for rabbit. Helloooo dogs. They call the cops.

My evidence: small hole in fence too small for luna, but big enough for barley - however neighbors say both dogs were out. Gate was wide open. The gate can be opened from the outside, but cannot be properly closed and latched from the outside. The night before Phlome had double checked the gate because the Dish guy had been in the backyard. The officer did not take either dog. If he considered the dogs to be dangerous he could impoud or even euthanize them. (I’m guessing the officer is a little on our side, but he has to officially file the complaint.)

What have we done to prevent future accidents?
1) covered hole in fence to prevent Barley from getting out.
2) padlocked the gate
3) got new rabies tags

I’m very annoyed w/ the new neighbors, but also releived that no one was actually hurt. Barley looks so much like a Pit, that existing prejudices against the breed can work against us. If he even scratched someone, he could be euthenized, unless we fought it in court - and no judge or jury sides with the owner of a “viscous animal.”

Crappy Watching?

I’m sure you’ve heard by now, the WB and UPN are combining forces to bring you the CW. I have no idea what that is supposed to stand for. But considering the shows that these two channels are, I think it’s gonna be something like Crappy Watching.

I love my Phlome

Check out the b-day bling from Phlome.

This lovely necklace was ordered before Christmas but because it is handmade, it just arrived last Thursday. An normally that’s something I could understand, but they told Phlome that it was shipped on Tuesday the 10th, and should have arrived by Tuesday the 17th. When the package finally arrived on the 19th, we both laughed when we saw that it was shipped from Plano, TX. Had Phlome known that’s where it was coming from, he could have driven up there and picked it up instead of paying and waiting for shipping.

Agony and Ecstacy

As you can see from Phlome’s Blog we now have what is known to most of the rest of the world as “real TV”. Something we have not had in nearly a year.
This is a good thing and a bad thing. Bad thing = I easily become a TV zombie. It sucks me in, and I cannot rip my eyes away from its hypnotizing power. That is of course because of the good things such as:

VH1 - 40 most awesomely bad ANYTHING I COULD EVER IMAGINE!
History Channel - AKA The Hitler Channel, AKA The WWII Channel
Cartoon Network - Adult Swim, need I say more?
Comedy Central - Oh South Park how, I’ve missed you so.

Those are the only new channels I know we have. It may be best that I remain ignorant, because I’m quite sure there are other channels we have that I would want to watch. But as it is, there are still non cable channel shows that I want to watch but never get around to:
Lost - okay, so I’ve kept up so far this season
Beauty and the Geek - DVRing
My Name is Earl - watched like 1/2 an episode
How I met Your Mother - seen like 2 episodes
4 Kings - have yet to watch
The Office - like 4 episodes
Gray’s Anatomy - 2 - maybe
Nip/Tuck - I am soooo far behind on this

Harrassment

Filed under: Rant — ninsianna @ 9:32 am

It always kind of annoys me when people prounounce it: Hair`ess ment - with the emphasis on Hair. It’s Har ass ment. Gotta have that ass in there.

Anyway - that’s really not the point of the this post at all. Phlome is getting on to me for not posting frequently enough - threatening to stop paying for my domain. So here - I’m posting.

What have I been up to, that has kept me from posting? Work mainly - and wedding stuff - which is pretty much my life until April.

The latest has been finalizing our registries. We’ve made some pretty good headway. If you’re curious (or have $$ burning a hole in your pocket) check them out:

Why I love my new job

Filed under: Confessions — ninsianna @ 9:48 pm

I think for the first time ever I may have a “real” job. I know it sounds pathetic, but it’s true. I spend all day at work, actually working! How on earth am I to find time to blog, check email, check blogs, search the web, play games? Well, the fact of the matter is, I really haven’t been lately.

I actually feel responsible for once. I have a general concept of “things to be done,” and have even had to delegate. I feel useful and productive. I come home at the end of the day, realizing that I have made accomplishments. It’s an incredibly good feeling. Yes, sometimes I get a bit frazzeled, but it’s a good frazzelled. I have a lot to do, and enough time to do it, I just don’t always know where to start. For oh so long, I would spend hours with nothing that needed to be done. And then when someone would ask me to do something, like change the printer toner, I would be terribly annoyed because “I’m above that - I have a degree and am working on my MBA” but in reality, once that toner was changed, I actually had a tiny bit of a good feeling of “accomplishment.” How sad is that? Well now I have real accomplishments.
Organized training for 30 consultants plus trainers with hotel, and passed on to new girl to finalize.
Organized and booked events for training team meeting in March (FYI - we’re going to VEGAS!)
Shared valuable info with teams on 3 diff conference calls (I actually had usefull input!)
Convinced managment that it is worth it to them to sen 6 consultants to training - despite the $30,000 in lost potential revenue.

That’s this week so far.
Tomorrow my goals are to:
Communicate agenda/travel details to 30 consultants
Outline plan for creating new job roles for entire co.
- initiate contact with people I need to help with this
Transition Feb. training to new girl
Ensure boss has faxed cc info for show in vegas
Follow up on organized events to ensure all is done
Educate new girl on virtual meeting software

And sometime tomorrow I also need to pay the deposit on the catering. That may have to wait til monday.

And I may have the coolest boss in the world. Imagine a laid back Eric Clapton. Now imagine him more laid back and a techie geek. And without the guitar.
And 2 timezones away.
And incredibly helpfull, approachable and flexible.

Seriously, by boss looks like this, only without the guitar. Oh and his hair is shorter more unkempt. As is his beard (more unkempt, that is).

bitch/moan

Filed under: Rant — ninsianna @ 11:47 am

OK - so my new position was to allow me to work from home a few days a week. So far, at best I’ve been able to work from home half days. And each time that I’ve been in that my replacement hasn’t (she’s only working part time), I’ve had to cover for her.
Friday I will be working from home, she does not work on Fridays. It will be the first time that neither of us will be here.
Today was supposed to be but I had a hefty conf call to deal with, wich I didn’t want to take from my cell phone.
She called in sick today so I’ve had to cover for her a couple times. But I’m leaving soon (would have left sooner, but I’m waiting for the lunch order which she should be handeling.) Hopefully she ordered something for me.
I really need them to realize that they need her more than part time. Both for my own sanity, and for validation. I mean after all, what does it say when you can be replaced by a part timer. And as long as I keep covering for her, it’s going to look that way. But it also seems very petty for me to say. No, I wont’ take the mail out with me on my way down. Or No, I won’t fwd that email for you, or no, I won’t check the printer for your print out. One at a time is petty, but it adds up. Unfortunately it’s always someone different. I swore I wouldnt’ let this happen. And I am. I get so aggrivated at myself. I need to find the balance btwn being nice and not being a doormat.
