Return

Filed under: Uncategorized — ninsianna @ 11:24 am

We owe you a lot of updates and pictures. We’re working on them. Very busy week - 2 days to get caught up and set things up for my absense again, as I have jury duty Monday.

Maybe jury duty will be done by monday and I can start updating then. Maybe we’ll update this weekend.
No promises.
But there are around 1200 photos we need to search through and determine which are post-worthy.

back to work.

Oh - for a brief summary: It was great. But never let an Italian schedule anything for you. Much less an entire cruise. Or a public transportation system.

Mrs. Phlome cont.

Ok - I know I’ve been bad, but I’ve been distracted. But before I go on, I just want to comment on the amazingly good job Karma going on around me. Today alone I’ve heard from 3 friends who received very good job related news today.
So if any of you want to send some of that good Karma this we the hubby and I would appreciate it. Mind you we’re not in dire straights, but the mister needs to find a new place to pay him before he sets the place on fire a la Melvin from Office Space.

Ok, so back to the updates that are due:
wedding recap
I slept very little from Wednesday through Monday. Saturday morning (the day of the wedding) I woke up at 4 am unable to sleep, and then got up at 6, got ready and waited around for half an hour for my cousins to get ready to go to the salon.
There was some almost drama at the salon when my youngest cousin got her hair done differently than I asked her to do it. But I just let it go, because there was no point in starting anything.
About 9:30 it started to rain. From then on Phlome, my mom and I were calling each other about every 15 minutes. Phlome was at the site ready to make the decision, but determined to have the site outside as planned. I’m glad he did. By 11am the sprinkling stopped, and he herded the guests from the covered pavilion to the chairs near the lake so we could get things underway.
We started a little late, but it went off without a hitch. Even managing not to crash the golf cart (more details to come when the photos are posted).
It was really an amazing feeling standing with my dad on one side, and my mom on the other at the back of the aisle looking into the faces of all my friends and family. So many people came to celebrate with my beau and me. I did manage to fend off the tears, but I did have one of those moments, when I felt truly touched to have so many friends and family there for us.
The ceremony went off relatively smoothly, except for the flying earring, and difficulty getting Phlome’s ring on (isn’t that a requisite part of every wedding anyway?)
The ceremony was followed by hugs and congratulations and the eventual shooing of guests off to the reception location. Then we did some photography. About the time we were down to just the Bride and Groom photos the sky started getting very dark again. So we hopped back in the golf cart and zoomed up to the pavilion. And exactly then, it decided to rain again.
But only for a few minutes.
On the way to the reception we found out that there was no cake. Phlome made a phone call said a few stern words, and by the time he and I arrived there was cake. Mind you it wasn’t the cake I ordered, but it was a very delicious (though gaudy) cake.
An early morning reception with only champagne for toasting does not lend itself to lots of dancing. So Phlome and I did our best to dance and encourage our guests to join us, but more often than not it was just he and I.
Then more photography, some goodbyes and see ya laters and we were off to the house to do what good husbands and wives do.
We napped.
Then dinner with family and that night party with friends. Good times had by all, but not nearly enough time. It’s something I’ve heard every bride and groom say, and it is so very true. I wish I’d had more time to spend talking with everyone there.
pictures and where to find them
When the pictures are ready, we’ll post them with more commentary.
April Fools Day ‘joke’
That would be the cake. I ordered a white 3 tier cake with sage and violet accents and cascading flowers made of icing.
I got a green cake with purple accents and no flowers. Considering the things that could have gone wrong, and the fact that we planned our wedding on April Fools day, I’m thankful it was the only thing that didn’t turn out as expected.

“Hot” Couture
While at the spa/salon getting my manicure/pedicure the day before the wedding, my pedicurist had some visitors. A somewhat largish Hispanic woman, her sister, a niece (probably 13ish) and some toddler they were babysitting. My manicurist (Lily) said this lady sells clothes. “Cheap Cheap.” I should “Look, see. Bye Cheap Cheap.” I expected some hand made or hand bejeweled tackiness.
So in walks this group of ladies, carrying large heavily laden black trash bags.
I thought that was an interesting way to transport one’s goods, but hey, to each their own.
They sat down near my and started pulling out capris and tank tops and blouses all looking very professionally made and only a few tacky tops.
And they’re all on white hangers.
And have old navy price tags.
And everything is half price.
Cash only.
And if she doesn’t have what you need, give her a couple weeks and she can get what you need, in the sizes you need.
But it’s time to go now, she has to go. She can’t stay long. Time to move on. Somewhere else to be.

I’ll give you a minute to mull that over before I give it away.

..
.
So after they left Lily told me in all the details how these items are so “Cheap cheap.”
They’re stolen.
No! Really?
See the large Hispanic lady goes to the store in baggy clothes, takes clothes to the fitting room to try on, and wraps around her layers and layers of clothes. If she’s had a specific request, she wraps those clothes around her, children’s clothes, women’s clothes, men’s clothes.
Seriously now. If you saw a large woman in baggy clothes taking multiple items of the same style and color in every size ranging from 4 to 18, into a fitting room, wouldn’t’ you be suspicious?
I think she’s got an in at Old Navy. Because according to Lily, it’s where she always gets her stuff.

We done got hitched. My body is rejecting the fact. Either that or my immune system is taking a hit from the stress/lack of sleep over the past 5 days months.

I have a lot to blog about:
