Distraction

As I’m sure you’ve read over at notival, our Alaskan cruise is eminent.   Seriously - it’s just about the only thing I think about - which makes for some seriously long and unproductive work days.

Patience is a virtue…

…I am obviously quite lacking in.  I was left alone in the house w/ the unpackaged final book for all of 15 minutes before I broke down and opened the book.  I am now quite a bit further into the book than Phlome because I “worked” from home yesterday afternoon and today…well, I’m not quite done with the book.

I hate myself just a little.  But I blame FJ - it’s all her fault.  Witness her so pursuasive words that forced me to open the cover:

me: now his book is sitting here right in front of me, while he has gone to the store

i may have to peak at the first chapter…

Jessica: um, it’s good.

me: ok…while ihave about a half an hour i’m gonna take advantage of it.
How can a person resist that!

Patience

Ok - so Bunny txt’d me when she got hers.  And I had to go to the post office to pick up Phlome’s but I must wait.  So I will be avoiding anything that has anything to do with books and reading until sometime between July 27th and July 31st.  Because I am a patient and dedicated woman.  I personally thing Phlome is just plain mean asking me to go pick up his book for him.  The book which is encased in amazon cardboard shouting “HARRY POTTER: DELUXE EDITION.”

But I wait.  Why? You might ask.  Because I insist on getting the UK children’s version of the book instead of the US children’s edition of the series.  Therefore while everyone else’s arrived on or around the 20th, mine won’t be here for another week.  And chances are I’ll be in Tulsa when mine arrives.  BUT I will have the entire plane trip and hotel stay and cruise to read my book. I’ll haver over a week lacking in responsibilities to read my brand new UK edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Patience has its rewards.

So I will likely be avoiding everyone else’s blogs for the next 2 weeks in case any of you want to talk about it.

In the meantime - Happy Harry Potter Book Release!

Oh!  And I’ve now seen OotP in IMAX with 20 minutes of 3D goodness.  Flying thestrals rock!

The power of 3

Filed under: Rant, Ick, Avoidance, Family — ninsianna @ 7:30 pm

I’m sure most everyone has heard some sort of saying implying the things come in threes.  Bad news comes in threes.  Well have damn well surpassed my 3 a good while back.  So I’ve decided that the fates didn’t think 3 people in my family with cancer was enough. It had to be 3 people with lung cancer.  Leukemia doesn’t count.  I found a little while back that my great uncle (my maternal grandfathers youngest brother) has been diagnosed with lung cancer.  Last night I heard the prognoses.  6 months.  Maybe a year or 2 with agressive chemotherapy.  Any one who has been through or has been close to someone who has gone through chemo can understand why a person might choose to foregoe the treatment.  I’m not real sure if he know what he wants to do yet.

Last night my dad informed me that his father also has lung cancer.  And it’s metastesized.  And he has a bleeding ulcer.

So seriously folks.  STOP THE DAMNED SMOKING.  And go to the doc once in a while.  Don’t wait until the neighbors have to call your son to find out where you’ve been for the past several days.

And on that note…I need a drink.

Failed Success

Filed under: Food, Parties — ninsianna @ 3:58 pm

We attempted to watch fireworks Tuesday night with friends, but only managed to make it upstairs as the finale was ending.  But last night Phlome and I got quite a show from both our neighbors and the Lonestar Park fireworks show.  I think our neighbors’ were better.   But that may be because we got to watch (and hear) as the neighbor kids ran from one end of the car port roof to the other as the lit the fuses and ran.

Oh - and we tried the new Doritos flavor - and it was pretty much agreed that it tastes like American cheese and mustard.  I think we near unanimously agreed that it sucked too.  So we threw it out, and our kitchen still smells like mustard and cheese.
